Sushi Basic History

Originated in China as fermented fish with rice and salt called Narezushi

  • Narezushi was introduced to Japan in 300AD

  • Evolved to fermenting with vinegar 14th century

Sushi Rice Prep

What you need

  • Pyrex casserole dish

  • Rice paddle or sturdy wood spatula


  • 1/2 cup Rice vinegar

  • 2 teaspoons Sugar

  • Dash of salt

  • 2 cups water

Prep Rice

  • Distribute rice across Pyrex dish to help cool rice

  • Ladle in ½ cup of the vinegar/water mixture

  • Move paddle through the rice in vertical strokes

  • Avoid mushing rice

  • Repeat applying vinegar/water mixture and using rice paddle until rice is separated well

Tools Needed​

  • Sushi roll mat

  • Plastic wrap

  • Rice prepped with sushi rice vinegar, salt, water & sugar

  • Nori sheet (Roasted seaweed sheet)

  • Salmon Sashimi, Cucumber, Avocado, Crab, Cream Cheese

  • Sesame Seeds

  • Cup of water
